Nathan Cleary is off-contract at the end of 2027, and the Panthers are very keen to keep him at the club.

The star halfback is currently sidelined with an injury, which he sustained during the Panthers’ finals defeat to the Knights.

With the captain sidelined, it has delayed talks over his new deal, but it is expected to be completed.

According to News Corp, the Panthers are close to re-signing Cleary on another long-term deal, which will be worth $1.7 million per season, pending salary cap rises.

Penrith are so confident that Cleary will remain at the foot of the mountain that they have already moved on to signing other targets.

The side are set to offer Moses Leota a new contract, which will seemingly force Liam Martin out of the club for 2028.

Isaah Yeo is another major retention by the Panthers during the off-season, and Cleary’s contract extension will be another boost to the minor premiers.

Rumours circulated that Cleary wanted to evaluate all of his options come November 1, but he was only ever going to be penning a contract with one club. The Panthers.

A cash-strapped PNG Chiefs could not tempt the NRL star away from the Panthers, who are set to lock down one of the best players in the league for many seasons to come.
