New Zealand Warriors star Dallin Watene-Zelezniak has sent a key message ahead of the Kiwis vs Tonga.
The two nations meet in the semi-finals of the Rugby League World Cup on Saturday, with the winger taking the field for Tonga.
Former Kiwi star Watene-Zelezniak switched his allegiance to Tonga for the World Cup and is now ready to take down the country he represented from 2016 to 2022.
“My great-grandfather got to captain the Kiwis as well, so that was pretty special to be able to put his name back where it once was,” Watene-Zelezniak said.
“It was always a goal of mine to represent New Zealand, but at the same time it was always a goal to represent Tonga for my grandma and my father.
“I’ve been able to play for both countries now, so I feel quite blessed.”
On the semi-final clash, Watene-Zelezniak added: “My family is going to be split down the middle on the weekend. It’s going to be a win-win for my family, no matter who wins the game.”
