South Sydney have an array of talent off contract for 2028, and they are heading to the open market in just a few weeks.

Latrell Mitchell is the club’s biggest name that is heading into November 1 without a club for 2028, but he is not the only player the club will be hoping to hold onto.

18 players in total are off contract as things stand, with the Rabbitohs having a busy off-season when it comes to contract extensions.

The large number of contract talks that will happen in the coming weeks will put the club’s salary cap under huge pressure.

David Fifita is one of those stars, as things stand.

The latter, who is a former Broncos player, would be a brilliant signing for Brisbane, given their back-rower situation. Jordan Riki is testing the market, while Brendan Piakura has endured career-threatening injury issues.

But Fifita is expected to be offered a three-year contract extension, which would deny any chance of him hitting the open market.

CODE Sports journalist Brent Read ‘expects David Fifita to re-sign’.

Read added he ‘would be surprised’ if Fifita does not extend his stay with the Bunnies.

The 26-year-old spent three years with Brisbane at the start of his NRL career. He played for the side between 2018 and 2020, before departing for Gold Coast Titans.

This year was his first campaign with the Rabbitohs, and he is looking to extend his contract with Wayne Bennett’s side.
