There has been a major update on the future of Melbourne Storm star hooker Harry Grant.

As has been well-publicised over the last week, Grant has a clause in his contract that allows him to test the market on November 1.

Despite coming into the season off contract at the end of the 2028 campaign, whispers emerged that Grant had a clause in his contract that acted as a player option for the final year.

This was subsequently confirmed, but the Storm insisted they would tie the hooker down before November 1 rolled around.

However, just like when Matt Tripp gave an overconfident interview about Cameron Munster’s future before the five-eighth decided to test the market, history has repeated itself.

The bombshell news out of Melbourne is that Grant now plans to decline the option to extend his contract by a year and test the market on November 1, according to Code Sports.

The Storm reportedly wanted to offer Grant an extension that would have taken him to the end of the 2030 season, but it appears as though the Queensland star has rejected Melbourne’s offer.

Clubs across the NRL are now on alert, but reports suggest that the Australian international will not be moving to the Perth Bears.

This is because Tyran Wishart has joined the Bears as the club’s starting nine, and Grant is keen to see his former teammate and good friend thrive at the 18th NRL franchise.

It’s hard not to believe every other NRL franchise will at least consider whether a move for Grant is possible. The 28-year-old is just that good.
