Herbie Farnworth is rightly regarded as one of the best centres currently playing in the NRL.
Since moving across Brisbane from the Broncos to the Dolphins, Farnworth has taken his game to new heights and is understandably the source of transfer speculation.
The 26-year-old’s current deal expires at the end of 2027, leaving him open to negotiations with other clubs from November – a risk the Dolphins surely won’t want to take.
Farnworth has been key to the Dolphins rise in the NRL. This season, as the club look to cement a top four spot after a six-game win streak, the Englishman has contributed 7 tries and 4 assists in 13 games.
He also has the most offloads and tackle breaks of any player in the NRL – stats made even more impressive with the fact he missed three rounds of action through injury earlier in the season.

Given all the above, it’s not a surprise that many of the NRL’s big hitters are monitoring Farnworth’s situation, with Sydney Roosters prepared to pay him big money, according to reports.
Brisbane Broncos, where Farnworth made his name, have also been mentioned as having an interest in bringing him back to the club.
Salary cap availability is likely to be an issue for the Broncos though given their failure to agree a new deal for Gehamat Shibasaki – some reports suggesting they are unable to meet his salary demands.
But should Shibasaki leave, Brisbane may be tempted to have a major salary cap reshuffle to bring back Farnworth and take up that centre spot long term.
This also holds weight due to Herbie’s love for the club and the Broncos faithful still having a strong affection towards their former star.
However, Farnworth himself has not spoken on his contract situation and the links to the Broncos and Roosters up until now. That changed though when he was quizzed about the rumours by AAP.
Speaking openly and honestly about the situation, Farnworth was quick to play down the speculation as merely ‘media talk’ and was firm in his commitment to the Dolphins.
“I am signed here for this year and next year. I have not had any thoughts on leaving,” said Farnworth.
He added: “I’m happy (here at the Dolphins). The links are just media talk. We haven’t spoken to anyone and I certainly haven’t heard anything.
“We have got a really good run this year and I don’t want anything like that to get in the way.
“I’m sure when contract talks do roll around, I will be speaking to the Dolphins first.”
Though it may appear Farnworth has poured cold water on any chance of a return to the Broncos or a big-money move to the Roosters, we all know things can change quickly in the NRL.
Herbie and his Dolphins side may be focused on their first finals appearance and trying to land a Premiership, but once November rolls around the speculation on Farnworth’s future will go into overdrive if the club don’t secure him to a new deal.
