Brisbane Broncos have been busy in the transfer market over recent days, securing the futures of several stars as their roster shapes up for 2027.

Not only this, but the club have also confirmed that Jesse Arthars will leave at the season’s end while veteran centre Dane Gagai will rejoin after departing 15 years ago.

Gagai’s arrival has split the Broncos faithful, with many believing it’s a lowball play to fill the gap left in the centres by the outgoing Gehamat Shibasaki.

Shibasaki has been unable to secure a new deal at Suncorp after a breakout year in 2025, which saw him repay Brisbane’s faith in him after securing a train-and-trial deal prior to the season.

After head coach Michael Maguire showed huge trust in Shibasaki and gave him an unlikely starting shirt early in the season, the centre hit career highs and scored the winning try in the Grand Final.

Representative honours came too, earning starts for Queensland and the Kangaroos. However, this season has seen the 28-year-old’s form drop off and Brisbane stalled on a new contract as a result.

It’s believed Shibasaki wanted an offer of around $750k, but the Broncos only tabled a $350k contract resulting in his management testing the market.

And it appears they may have a big bite after a number of clubs showed an interest. Six Again understands Shibasaki is set to join the NRL’s new expansion side Perth Bears.

The Bears are looking to secure high-profile talent as they prepare for their first NRL season in 2027, and it’s our understanding they have offered Shibasaki a huge $1 million contract.

It comes after Perth were this week granted $500,000 in salary cap concessions to help them complete their roster, with the club struggling to attract big-name players due to their location.

But it appears they have wasted no time using part of that extra money to bring Shibasaki to Western Australia, with club and player hoping to confirm a three-year deal in the coming days.
