Herbie Farnworth is arguably the best centre in the NRL, and it’s no surprise to see transfer talk surrounding the Englishman.
The latest update, though, is a very interesting one, and could leave the Dolphins, and any team chasing the 26-year-old, frustrated.
Farnworth has dominated for the Dolphins since switching from the Brisbane Broncos. This year, for instance, he is remarkably at the top of the charts for offloads and tackle busts, as well as constantly offering bags of speed and skill on the left edge.
Herbie Farnworth linked with Broncos and Roosters
This fine play has led to rumours aplenty surrounding his future, with the Sydney Roosters reportedly interested in the outside back.
Now, the Roosters, and any other NRL team for that matter, cannot make an official play for Farnworth until after November 1, with his current deal at the Dolphins set to expire at the end of the 2027 season.
However, that hasn’t stopped the rumours of a move to the Roosters, and even links with a return to the Broncos.

But one curveball thrown into the mix is the prospect of Farnworth leaving the league to go to rugby union.
Brent Read told NRL360: “The information I am getting is that this (Farnworth to Roosters) won’t happen. It’s not on. I know the rumours have been going around for a while now.
“The sense that I get is that rugby union is more of a threat for Herbie than the Sydney Roosters. He dabbled before.”
Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis added: “I still think the Roosters are a strong chance. He’d fit in, he’s an absolute gun.”
Luke Keary interjected: “I don’t know why he’d leave the Dolphins. He’s got a great relationship there, and the Dolphins are a great team.”
Read added: “At some point their cap is going to bite, though.”
Herbie Farnworth gives transfer verdict
It remains to be seen what happens with his future, but Farnworth, for one, is comfortable where he is right now.
Farnworth explained this week: “I am signed here for this year and next year. I have not had any thoughts on leaving.”
“I’m happy (here at the Dolphins). The links are just media talk. We haven’t spoken to anyone, and I certainly haven’t heard anything.
“We have got a really good run this year, and I don’t want anything like that to get in the way. I’m sure when contract talks do roll around, I will be speaking to the Dolphins first.”
