Brisbane Broncos have confirmed a transfer move ahead of the 2027 NRL season amid an array of noise of late.
The Broncos have a salary cap problem, which has forced them to move on from Gehamat Shibasaki. The centre wanted top dollar, but the club were only willing to offer $300K per season.
Instead, Shibasaki is likely to join the Melbourne Storm next year, and Brisbane has found his replacement in Dane Gagai.
Broncos confirm transfer decision

Brisbane Broncos have landed Dane Gagai.
A one-year deal for 35-year-old Gagai has been confirmed by Brisbane, who attempted to rationalise the signing in a statement on Thursday, as they look set to let an Origin player go as a result.
Broncos General Manager of Recruitment and Pathways Simon Scanlan insisted that Gagai was the ‘perfect addition to the NRL squad as the Club brings through the next generation of young outside backs’.
“The Broncos are very excited to see Dane making a return to Red Hill in 2027,” he said. “His form this season has been outstanding, and he has undoubtedly been one of the form centres this year.
“As we continue to develop our young outside backs, having experienced professionals around them is incredibly important. Dane’s leadership, professionalism and proven performance at the highest level make him a valuable addition to our club.”
