New Zealand Warriors have locked down one of their stars until the end of the 2028 season.
After a successful 2026 campaign, the Wahs went into the off-season hoping to lock down several players who could have hit free agency in the coming weeks.
With a tight salary cap to work with and plenty of their players shining, the task was always going to be tough.
Despite this, the Auckland-based side has confirmed Wayde Egan has penned a new deal with the Warriors, running until the end of the 2028 season.
The 29-year-old was off-contract following the 2027 season, but the Warriors have acted quickly to tie him down for longer.
Egan’s new one-year contract extension will keep him at the club for at least nine seasons, writing his name into the club’s history books.
At the recent Dally M Awards, Wayde Egan won the NRL’s Hooker of the Year medal, highlighting the strong year he had.
The Australian featured in 25 of the Wahs 26 games across the campaign, making him a crucial part of the Warriors squad.
Head coach Andrew Webster spoke on the contract news, saying: “Wayde is brilliant, an elite hooker who’s so smart in his all-round game and a player who provides so much in every respect around the club.
“We’ve got a style of play we put around him so he can show his talent. He’s exceptional and a player we’re so happy to see staying at the club.”
