Reece Walsh is a valuable asset for the Brisbane Broncos, and the club are looking at their long-term options with the star.

Michael Maguire is interested in bringing the fullback into the club’s leadership group, following the retirement of Adam Reynolds and the departure of Payne Haas.

The Broncos are working on a mega contract extension to lock down Walsh’s future as a Bronco for the rest of his career, according to Courier Mail.

The club’s new recruitment boss, Peter O’Sullivan, begins his new role on November 1, and one of his first tasks is to ensure Walsh never leaves the Broncos.

The 24-year-old is contracted to the Queensland outfit until the end of 2029, but the side wants to keep him well away from the open market, especially during his prime years of footy.

Brisbane are aware of potential threats that they may face, especially from the PNG Chiefs. Their tax-free contracts will be a major lure to players from across the league, as they look to complete numerous deals from November 1.

Walsh is content at the Broncos, and the club is happy with how he is performing.

Michael Maguire said: “I’ve been really impressed with Reece in my time here. The experience he’s had over the past two years has shaped his development. We want ‘Reecey’ at the club for a long time, and I’d certainly love to keep coaching him as long as I can.”
