Harry Grant is set to hit the open market in less than one week, with the Melbourne Storm hooker off contract at the end of 2027.

The NRL star has a player option to extend his deal with Melbourne through until the end of the 2028 campaign, but as things stand, he will not activate that extra year.

Teams across the league are on alert regarding Grant’s situation, as he prepares to speak to rival sides.

Storm’s captain has recently been linked to Newcastle Knights and Gold Coast Titans.

The latter are prepared to make a big play for the off-contract talent in the coming weeks and sign one of the best players to hit the open market.

The Knights are hoping to further strengthen their spine with the signing of Grant, who would combine with Kalyn Ponga, Dylan Brown and Fletcher Sharpe.

But the Knights will only make a move for the Melbourne skipper if Bradman Best does leave the club.

The Daily Telegraph reports the Titans are prepared to make a $1 million bid to see Grant return to Queensland, who have flexibility with their salary cap.

AJ Brimson has been linked with a move to PNG Chiefs, which would add flexibility to the Titans if they were to make a move for Grant.

Craig Bellamy is also expected to play a big role in whether Grant remains at the Storm or not. If the head coach retires, then the 28-year-old is expected to leave.
