Huge Billy Walters contract update after fresh twist

Broncos star Billy Walters’ future is still up in the air, with the 32-year-old yet to sign a contract for 2027.

Both the Broncos and Walters have been in discussions over a new deal, but nothing has been agreed yet. A new two-year contract has been tabled, but negotiations are continuing.

The delay has alerted Brisbane’s Queensland rivals Gold Coast, with the Titans reportedly prepared to table a bigger offer to the hooker.

But despite the slow negotiations, both the Broncos and Walters seem relaxed regarding the whole situation with both parties seemingly wanting the same end goal.

An update on the situation has been provided by CODE Sports’ Travis Meyn, with Broncos fans starting to panic that another favourite is set to depart.

Meyn told SENQ Breakfast: “The Billy Walters thing just hasn’t resolved itself yet. Brisbane have made him an offer. He’s desperate to stay there, he loves the club, he doesn’t want to go anywhere.

“But they just haven’t been able to get his signature over the line. There’s been some toing and froing around terms of money and the like.

“The delay in negotiations has opened the door for the Gold Coast Titans to potentially swoop in.

“I think Billy could really add something to the Titans, but I rang him last week and said, ‘What’s going on?’ He said, ‘Oh, I just really want to get a deal done here at Brisbane.”

Ending the conversation, Meyn finally added: “I wouldn’t be surprised if he left. But in the NRL. I’ll never rule anything out.”
