Broncos confirm new mega offer

Brisbane Broncos might just be back in business on the field after a terrible 2026 to date, while off the field they are making some huge decisions.

The Broncos moved up to 13th on the NRL ladder thanks to an impressive win over the Penrith Panthers last Thursday.

Brisbane need to win their seven remaining games to stand a realistic chance of making the Finals, but the reigning Premiers have been buoyed by the return of key stars who inspired the aforementioned victory.

One of those vital players is Patrick Carrigan, who came back from an ankle injury to take the field. He had missed several weeks with the problem before making the Queensland squad for the Origin decider, only to not come off the bench during the contest.

It at least left the forward fresh on his return against the Panthers, with Carrigan making a team-high 48 tackles, while he also ran for 126 metres.

Broncos to agree new blockbuster deal

These types of strong performances with and without the ball from the lock position have left the Broncos eager to tie the Australia international down to a new contract.

Carrigan’s current deal runs until the end of the 2028 season, but reports reveal that Brisbane want to add another two years to the contract.

The Broncos are understood to be keen to add Carrigan to their $1m per season club. Star full-back Reece Walsh is a part of the club, while the outgoing Payne Haas is also over the threshold.

But with Haas leaving for South Sydney Rabbitohs ahead of 2027, there is cash available to sink into other star players.

Reports say that the presence of the big-spending PNG Chiefs, as well as the Perth Bears and a potential 20th franchise, have prompted the Broncos to act early and tie Carrigan down at least until 2030, by which time he will be 32.

“With the NRL’s salary cap tipped to increase by at least 20 per cent for 2028, a ratchet clause in his next Broncos contract will see Carrigan’s salary exceed $1 million and reach as much as $1.2m,” the report reads.

Brisbane chairman Karl Morris explained: “I’m confident we can keep him here.

“Pat was part of our Broncos Academy – the Reds (Queensland rugby) were keen on him at one point – but we want him to be a one-club player.

“We have been delighted with the way he has been playing and the energy he brings to every game.

“He is part of our long-term plans.”
