Huge Ben Te’o future news emerges

Brisbane Broncos fans are still pondering what things might have been like in 2026 if Ben Te’o hadn’t left, and now things could get worse.

Te’o was seen as a key cog in the Brisbane machine that won a Premiership in 2025.

Working as a defensive coach under Michael Maguire, Te’o helped establish a steely mindset without the ball that inspired a Premiership.

But Te’o and Maguire fell out in a much-publicised verbal altercation, with the former deciding to leave.

Te’o has since worked with Queensland under Billy Slater during the 2026 State of Origin series, and could be set to do the same under Kevvie Walters for Australia during the 2026 Rugby League World Cup.

But perhaps ominously for Broncos fans, he is also set to be snapped up by the South Sydney Rabbitohs for the 2027 campaign.

Wayne Bennett is eagerly chasing Te’o’s long-term signature to join him at the Rabbitohs, the same club Payne Haas decided to join in 2027.

The Courier Mail have reported that Te’o will interview with the Bunnies next week in a bid to land a deal at the side.

Te’o open to Sydney move after Broncos exit

Te’o, currently living in Brisbane, has said he is open to moving his family across to Sydney if that’s where his career takes him.

“As a young coach, you have to take opportunities when they come up,” he told the Courier Mail. “There’s only so many clubs in Queensland and the tough part of coaching is you have to be willing to move your family.

“I had a great Origin campaign with Queensland. I am watching a lot of games for Triple M (as a commentator) and the game is evolving all the time. I’m watching closely and would love to get back into the NRL.”

On his role with Queensland, he added: “I’m not sure where I stand with Queensland.

“I signed for this year only, and I really enjoyed my year there, but I only signed for one year, so whether I go on next year is up in the air.

“I really enjoyed the position and would be open to doing it next year.”
