There has been a major update regarding Nathan Cleary’s future amid links with the New Zealand Warriors.

Cleary is out of contract at the end of the 2027 NRL season, and has been widely expected to test the market on November 1.

The star scrum-half is rated as one of the best players in the game, with his next contract expected to reset the market in the NRL.

But Cleary has been linked with the Warriors, with the club said to have a ‘big chance’ to sign the 28-year-old.

Cleary even addressed the rumours, but questioned whether he would want to get in the way of brother Jett’s progression at the Wahs.

While Cleary didn’t deny he could end up at the Warriors, many more scenarios could play out.

The New South Wales star is in a relationship with female soccer star Mary Fowler, and one day could end up in the Northern Hemisphere playing Super League, or even European rugby union.

But this latest update suggests that Cleary could still yet stay much closer to home at the Penrith Panthers.

“There are talks this week with Isaah Yeo, and then they will work out a plan moving forward for Nathan Cleary,” Read said on NRL 360.

“Those talks will kick off really soon with Nathan Cleary. I think they are very confident they will get a deal done with Nathan. My expectation is he may sign before November 1.”
