Bulldogs star in major transfer U-turn

Bulldogs forward Max King has decided to backtrack on a huge decision he made.

Less than a week ago, Max King was expected to depart Canterbury at the end of his contract in 2027.

The 29-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to PNG Chiefs ahead of the 2028 season, but that move does not seem likely.

Last week, former journalist Phil Rothfield said on Triple M Radio that the Bulldogs star would leave for the Chiefs, which surprised many.

This is because a move to Port Moresby does not appeal to the player, who is happy and settled with his current side and has no intention of departing.

If the deal went through, the former Melbourne Storm player would have remained with the Bulldogs for ’27 before leaving to link up with the Chiefs for their inaugural NRL season.

Although it is unknown how far negotiations have progressed, King is expected to remain with the Bulldogs beyond his contract.

The Bulldogs’ salary cap is stretched at the moment, but King is expected to sign a new deal and remain.

He has become an important figure at the club since joining from the Storm for the 2022 campaign.

Since switching to Canterbury, the prop has featured 109 times.

The positive news for King could keep getting better following his new deal, with him expected to receive a call-up to England’s World Cup squad, which would see him make his international debut.
