Cronulla Sharks confirm deal

Cronulla Sharks kickstart their NRL finals campaign with a home clash against the Cowboys on Saturday.

The side go into the match after losing four of their last five, finishing fifth on the ladder.

Although they are struggling for form, the Sharks have received news that one of their players has extended his contract with the club.

Riley Jones, who featured against Melbourne Storm, has penned a one-year contract extension with the team.

He played the full game against the Storm, making his second NRL appearance. Three years ago, he made his debut for the Knights. It has been a long wait between NRL appearances, but he received his second call-up for first-grade minutes last time out for the Sharks.

He said: “I’m stoked. It means the world to my family and me. I’m so grateful to the club and Fitzy for having the trust in me, and it’s good to have that all done and get back to focusing on footy.” To just be here now is a dream come true.”

On the weekend clash, he said: “I’m pumped. Just for Fitzy and the coaching staff to trust me to go out and play my game, and to have me in the team, is so special. To have an opportunity to play in the finals is so special; I pinch myself.”
