It’s not just Brisbane Broncos stars making transfer news headlines, with former players also creating buzz across the globe.
Ben Hunt, Jesse Arthars, and Tom Duffy are all Brisbane players currently figuring out their futures, with Hunt close to a new deal, Arthars hoping for a new contract, and fans eager to see Duffy stay put. But this update is all about a player no longer at Suncorp Stadium.
Former Brisbane Broncos player has uncertain future

Tyson Smoothy during his time at Brisbane Broncos.
Tyson Smoothy was a departure that not too many Broncos fans were happy with at the back end of last year. The 26-year-old came off the bench in Brisbane’s Grand Final win over Melbourne Storm, and many expected him to stick around for the long term.
But he instead headed for pastures new and found himself at Wakefield Trinity, a side pushing for a top-four finish in the Super League.
Smoothy has made a big impact in the Northern Hemisphere, but it looks pretty clear that the hooker is not going to stick around for very long.
The reasons are two-fold: Smoothy has some reported family reasons for leaving, and a certain NRL club is circling. Wakefield boss Daryl Powell believes he will see out the season, but doesn’t know what the future holds for 2027 and beyond.
“He had some family stuff at our last game with his little one, and I won’t expand on that,” Powell said this week. “I think Tyson is settled, and he’ll be here for the rest of the season. Whether he’s here after that, we’ll talk about that down the track.
“He’s here for the rest of this year, he’s pretty settled and enjoying his time at the club, but we’ll see where that goes down the track.”
Perth Bears eyeing up former Brisbane Broncos player

Mal Meninga will lead the Perth Bears as head coach.
But where is Smoothy going? Well, the answer to that might just be the Perth Bears, if the latest reports are to be believed.
It has been reported that Smoothy is attracting interest back home here in Australia, and the Perth Bears are said to be the team most likely to land his signature.
While Smoothy has a three-year deal with Wakefield, it’s understood that he is seeking a release from the final two years of the deal due to family reasons, though the prospect of a starting berth in the NRL might also be a big attraction too.
With hooker being a glaring hole in the recruitment of the Bears so far, it’s safe to say adding the 26-year-old would be a good move for Mal Meninga and his side.
